Children, youth and families

Children are a joy to God and to us. We welcome families in all their diversity, following our Baptismal promise to “respect the dignity of every human being.” At our 10:00 AM Sunday Joy service we strive to provide an atmosphere where families with children will feel particularly welcome.

In worship, children sit with their parents or their class in the front row. Children and youth are invited to serve as acolytes. Youth are encouraged to read lessons. Families are invited to be part of inter-generational Sunday teams that prepare the altar and church for worship, and welcome people to church. In the church, there is a rocking chair for parents, space for toddlers to walk around, carpet squares for sitting up front, and coloring papers and crayons.

Church school follows the lectionary and the Episcopal curriculum Living the Good News, Chapel edition. Children come into the church for every Baptism to support the newly Baptized and their families. The first Sunday of every month children participate in a lively interactive sermon with the pastor and congregation. In the summer we offer a creative weekday evening Vacation Bible School for children in our community.

Special events for families include a Welcome Picnic in September, Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, children’s Easter Egg Hunt, and a Pentecost barbeque.
